Instagram is really several content types in one app, and each has its own download quirks:

Everything you save is a standard MP4 for video or a full resolution JPG for photos. Instagram stores reels and feed videos at 720p or 1080p in most cases, and we always take the highest stream available for that post. Because the file is normal H.264 MP4 with AAC audio, it plays on any phone and drops straight into editors like CapCut, Reels, Premiere or DaVinci Resolve with no conversion. Photos come through at the resolution they were uploaded, not the shrunken preview you see while scrolling.

One honest note on watermarks: we never add one, but if a creator burned their handle into the video before posting, that is part of the footage and cannot be stripped by any downloader.
