How to Download X (Twitter) Videos on iPhone (2026)

Save any public X video straight to your iPhone Camera Roll in HD, no app and no shortcut needed. Step by step Safari method plus fixes for when the download will not start.

Save X videos on iPhone, a phone showing an X video saving into the Camera Roll

Apple does not let apps drop files straight into your Camera Roll from the web, which is why saving a Twitter video on iPhone feels harder than it should. The good news: you do not need an app or a shortcut. This guide shows the fastest browser only way to save any public X video to your iPhone in HD, plus the one setting that fixes a stuck download.

The fastest method, in Safari

  1. In the X app or on x.com, open the tweet with the video. Tap the share icon and choose Copy link.
  2. Open Safari and go to our Twitter video downloader. Paste the link into the box.
  3. Press Download and pick the highest quality. Safari saves the MP4 into the Files app.
  4. Open the Files app, tap Downloads, then tap the video. Tap the Share icon and choose Save Video. It is now in your Camera Roll.

That is the entire process. No app install, no login, no watermark, and the file is a normal MP4 that plays anywhere.

Why the extra Files step is needed

On a computer a download just lands in a folder, but iOS routes browser downloads into the Files app first, not Photos. That is an Apple rule, not a limit of the tool. The one time trip through Files and the Share sheet is what moves the video from Files into your Camera Roll, where it lives with everything else.

Once you have done it once it becomes muscle memory: download, open Files, Save Video.

The number one fix when nothing downloads

If you press Download and nothing happens, the culprit is almost always your Safari download location. By default Safari can be set to save into iCloud Drive, and if your iCloud storage is full the download silently fails.

The fix takes ten seconds:

  1. Open Settings and tap Safari.
  2. Tap Downloads.
  3. Choose On My iPhone instead of iCloud Drive.

Now downloads land in local storage and start every time. This single setting solves the large majority of stuck downloads on iPhone.

Getting HD, not a blurry copy

Screen recording a tweet gives you a soft, low quality file, and many tools hand you the smallest version X offers. Our downloader lists every resolution the tweet has and lets you take the top one, usually 720p or 1080p. For the full explanation of X video quality, our guide on downloading Twitter videos in HD goes deeper.

GIFs and the Shortcuts option

If the tweet is a GIF rather than a video, it will save as a small looping MP4, which is how X stores GIFs. Our Twitter GIF downloader is tuned for that case.

Prefer automation? You can build an Apple Shortcut that takes a shared tweet link and downloads the video, but for a one off save the Safari method above is quicker and needs no setup. Either way, no app from the App Store is required.

Quick recap

Copy the link, paste it in Safari, download, then Save Video from the Files app. If a download stalls, switch Safari downloads to On My iPhone. That is all it takes to get any public X video into your iPhone Camera Roll in full quality.

Frequently asked questions

How do I download a Twitter video on my iPhone?

Copy the tweet link, open our Twitter downloader in Safari, paste the link and press Download. Safari saves the MP4 to the Files app, and from there you tap Share and choose Save Video to move it into your Camera Roll.

Do I need an app to save Twitter videos on iPhone?

No. The whole process runs in Safari, so there is no app to install and no jailbreak. A Shortcuts option exists if you prefer it, but the browser method is faster for a one off save.

Why does the download do nothing on my iPhone?

Usually the Safari download location is set to iCloud Drive and your iCloud is full. Open Settings, Safari, Downloads and switch it to On My iPhone. A full iCloud quota silently blocks downloads.

How do I get the video into my Camera Roll?

After downloading, open the Files app, go to Downloads, tap the video, tap the Share icon and choose Save Video. That copies it into Photos so it sits with your other camera videos.

Can I download X videos in HD on iPhone?

Yes. Our tool lists every resolution X hosts for the video and you pick the highest one. The saved MP4 is the same quality on iPhone as on desktop.
